Delta State Government Shuts Down Hotel in Isoko Community Over Alleged Kidnappings and Killings
In a decisive move to combat criminal activities, the Delta State Government has sealed Century Home Hotel in Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area, following allegations linking the establishment to kidnappings and murders.
The action was led by the Isoko North Local Government Chairman, Prince Godwin Ogorugba, who, accompanied by security personnel, acted on a tip-off regarding the abduction and subsequent killing of Sunday Ogofotha, a community member residing in
Ogofotha had traveled from Lagos on Friday to attend a family funeral and checked into Century Home Hotel. When he failed to appear at the Saturday event, concerned relatives contacted his wife, who confirmed his lodging details. Upon inquiry, the hotel management initially denied his presence. However, a search led by family members and local vigilantes uncovered Ogofotha's lifeless body in a locked room, showing signs of restraint and injuries.
Further investigations revealed that the hotel had a history of criminal activities. Notably, a Point of Sale (POS) operator was reportedly murdered there the previous year, with her belongings later discovered on the premises. The wife of the hotel's security guard allegedly confessed to her husband's involvement in that incident, stating that the victim was buried behind the hotel.
In response, Chairman Ogorugba emphasized the gravity of the situation and justified the recent curfew imposed in the area for public safety. He ordered the complete sealing of the hotel and warned property owners against facilitating illegal activities. "We will take decisive action against any property owners who aid criminal activities in our communities," Ogorugba stated.
The hotel's owner, Chief Joseph Ovie Oghole, along with the security guard and his wife, have been arrested and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.
This incident has heightened concerns about security in the region, prompting calls for stricter oversight of hospitality establishments to prevent their exploitation for criminal purposes.
